There are many variations on low carb dieting. Although most people today think the concept began with Dr. Atkins, it has a long history. Most doctors and nutritionists heaped a lot of scorn on Dr. Atkins when he became a household name. He has been vindicated. Gary Taubes, in his marvelous overview of the diet research and conclusion, Good Calories, Bad Calories, showed that this was a very effective approach to weight loss. As he summarized the research – you can’t get fat from eating protein or fats, only from carbohydrates.
